BEDS FOR BABIES PROGRAM

2010 was another challenging year for the SIDS Center of Indiana.  Our funding was again very limited.  We are making every effort to keep this program alive and will do our best in 2011 to assist your agencies and Indiana families.  .

The SIDS Center of Indiana continues to reach out to Care Coordination Agencies and families in need. We are especially proud that we are able to spread the word about our program and provide this service on an all volunteer basis.

We have continued our fundraising efforts thru special events and grant proposals.  Your letters of support, before and after photos, thank you notes and words of encouragement, warm our hearts and serve as wonderful presentation materials when we are applying for additional funds.

This year we will continue to provide Wal-Mart $100.00 gift cards. The gift card should be sufficient when purchasing portable cribs or "Pack 'n Plays".

  • Please refer critical need cases as a priority.

  • Email is the easiest, and fastest way to contact me. Kim Whittaker

  • It is imperative that the criteria be followed and the proper documentation is filled out correctly and completely.

  • Proper documentation and receipts must be returned for your agency to continue to benefit from this program.

  • Limited funding restricts the number of cribs available each month.

  • Declines will be notified by email; if no e-mail is provided notification is based on the contact information provided.

  • Clients should not contact us directly. The designated agency contact is the only authorized person to handle requests.

As always you can feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. We ask for your patience as we remind you that we are an all-volunteer agency and will strive to handle your referrals as quickly as possible and as funding permits.

In the belief that every child should live, here is to happy, healthy 2011!

Back to Sleep Program

How to Reduce the Risk of SIDS: Since the introduction of the "Back to Sleep" Campaign in 1992, SIDS deaths have been decreased by nearly 50%. With so much emphasis being placed on the importance of a baby's sleep environment, many cases of accidental suffocation of infants during sleep have come to the forefront.

In reviewing the infant deaths in Indiana, it became apparent that many babies are sleeping in adult beds, couches, and recliners. Unfortunately, some of these families can't afford the only place their baby should be sleeping... AN APPROVED CRIB.

The good news is that these accidental suffocation deaths can be reduced or even eliminated.

The SIDS Center of Indiana is looking for corporate, civic, or personal interest in partnering to ensure that every baby in Indiana has a safe place to sleep. A $100 donation will purchase a 'BED FOR A BABY'. Your employer, church, fraternity, sorority, civic group or even your family CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

If you are a parent with an infant under the age of one year and do not have the financial means to acquire a safe crib for you child, give us a call at:
